A little girl holds up a white plate like it's a drum, one hand pressed to her chest, eyes half-closed, mid-song. Behind her, a green wall carries eight black letter cards, each one cut and painted by a child's own hand: I L I G H T G L O B A L. She doesn't know it yet, but she is standing inside a statistic. She is also standing outside of one — which is the whole point of this story. Every letter on that wall was placed there by a child who has moved more times than she can count. In India, most children never get asked to spell out the name of the place that holds them. This one did. And for a moment, on an ordinary evening, a rented room with a green backdrop became the most permanent address she had. A child holds up a plate like a drum as her classmates spell out I LIGHT GLOBAL, letter by hand-painted letter.

Give a child a pencil and no instructions, and you find out what's actually on her mind. Over the past weeks, the children at I Light Global have been drawing — not for an assignment, not for a grade, just because paper was in front of them. What came back tells you more about their inner lives than any survey could. Here are eight of those drawings, in the children's own hands. The Weight He CarriesA boy stands hunched forward, head bowed, under a backpack drawn twice the size it needs to be — straps digging in, colours piled on top of colours. This was the artwork chosen to announce I Light Global's mission to empower migrant children, and it earns that place. Nobody had to explain to this child what it feels like to carry more than your body is built for. He already knew. He just needed a page to put it down on.
